About main research area

Our current research focuses on integrating fundamental principles from physics, applied mathematics, engineering, and biology. By combining deep insights from these interdisciplinary domains, we aim to design and develop advanced scientific and engineering tools and instruments for diagnostic applications.

2015 - 2016

Assist. Professor  at IIT Hyderabad

Department of Biomedical Engineering

Hyderabad (India)

Research Interest

Bio-Nanophotonics is a prominent interdisciplinary research domain, and our laboratory is actively engaged in designing and developing advanced optical and ultrasound-based tools, sensors, measurement protocols, and computational algorithms within the framework of biophysics and bioengineering. Our research aims to address critical health-related challenges, including angiogenesis in solid tumors, joint-related arthritis, inflammation, and related pathophysiological conditions.

Our work involves the application of partial differential equations (PDEs), inverse problem methodologies, and soft radiation techniques—such as electromagnetic waves, ultrasound, optical signals, and electrical currents—to model tissue functionality for disease diagnosis in living subjects. To support these activities, the laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art lasers, electronic and RF systems, ultrasound transducers, and high-performance computing facilities for solving complex PDEs and inverse problems.

Researchers and students whose interests and skill sets align with these research directions are encouraged to express their willingness to collaborate by contacting us.

. If your interest and skill sets are aligned with our research activities then please do not hesitate to write to us your willingness. In nutshell the keywords of our research activities are the following:

1. Algorithms, Soft radiation, and  Physics

2. Wavefront shaping for next-generation deep tissue microscopy

3. Engineering Physics and instrumentation & its design

4. Numerical methods for partial differential equations (EM-wave, Sound wave, diffusion equation, Radon transformations, etc)

5. Inverse problem and defect detection

6. RF signal processing

7. MRI

8. Electronics and design for DAQ development

9. 3D printing for multidisciplinary problems

10. Programming language and Machine learning, AI.
11. Multi-channel DAQ with FPGA  for Sonar application.

Teaching Contribution:

List of courses taught, new courses proposed and new innovative strategies adopted for teaching:

I have taught the following courses in the last eight years:

PHY312  Advance electronics and instrumentation: 2017-219, 2021 to 2022 (Lab set-Up, new Innovative approaches are adopted, designed experiments and manual for lab from scratches )

IDC211 Workshop Training : 2016-2018, 2021-2023

IDC622: Basis for Medical Diagnostics : 2016,2018.2020, 2022 ( proposed new IDC course)

PHY111:  Mechanics Lab: 2022

PHY102: EM theory: 2023-2025

Co-Instructor in the Following labs:

PHY311:  Advance Optics Lab  2016-2019, 2022-23

PHY201 : Physics Laboratory III : 2024

PHY411 : Nuclear physics lab: 2022

New innovative strategies and practical approaches are adopted in the PHY312 course where both theory and hands-on experiences are infused. The course curriculum of PHY312 has been designed from scratch to give the full idea and experiences of both electronics, automation and advanced instrumentation for aiding modern day advanced research.  A complete design & development of the lab and the  procurements of each components are carrried out as per  the experiments designed. A detailed lab manual for each experiment is written by me. I tried to teach in a concept-based, hands-on learning-based demonstration manner rather than memorization. As a part of the course, I gave the students both lab based basic building blocks of each experiment that needs to be performed on the workbench and thereafter, evaluated them based on their understanding of the concepts.  A theoretical concept based Lecture for the advanced electronics and instrumentation class has been given prior to starting the weekly scheduled experiments so that the students can understand the steps and concepts while doing the hands-on experiments.
