One-day workshop on Photonics and Imaging devices

Welcome to the Bio-Nanophotonics (BioNaP) Lab—an interdisciplinary research group at IISER Mohali actively involved in a range of innovative research initiatives spanning optics, photonics, acoustics, and tomography. Nanophotonics is a rapidly advancing multidisciplinary field, and our laboratory focuses on areas such as photoacoustics, optical tweezers, holography, wavefront shaping, three-dimensional microscopy, and advanced computational algorithms, including partial differential equations (PDEs), inverse problems, structural defect detection, and artificial intelligence. By integrating biological systems with photonics and ultrasound, we aim to design and develop hybrid diagnostic tools for applications in physics, life sciences, visualization, and biomedical diagnosis.

Our core research interests center on instrumentation, mathematical modeling, and diagnostic methodologies. In this pursuit, we develop computational frameworks based on PDEs to model the interaction of soft radiation—such as electromagnetic waves in the visible spectrum, alternating electrical currents, magnetic fields, and ultrasound—with soft matter. These approaches enable the non-invasive estimation of diagnostic parameters at high spatial resolution. The lab has also developed a suite of software tools for 2D and 3D finite element modeling (FEM), linear and circular back-projection techniques using X-ray, ultrasound, and optical modalities, as well as matrix non-inversion methods to address ill-posed problems in defect detection and quantitative analysis.

If your interest and skill sets are aligned with our research activities then please do not hesitate to write to us your willingness to work with us. In nutshell the keywords of our research activities are focused on the following core area :

Our key research areas -

1. Holography, Wavefront Shaping, Photoacoustics and Photoacoustic Tomography, Optoacoustic Tweezers, 3D-microscopy.

2. Sensor fabrication for Ultrasound and Photoacoustics - (Piezo material such as PVDF and it's copolymer-based Ultrasound sensor development).

3. Algorithms, Soft radiation, and  Engineering Physics. Inverse problems for  defect detection in matter.

4. Instrumentation & its design for Contemporary bio-physics Research.

5. Modelling partial differential equations for Radiation matter interaction-

(FEM, Radon transform, F-K Migration, Greens Function approach, etc. )

6. Coding based projects (C/C++, Python, Matlab, Labview) for Machine learning, AI.

7. Multi-channel DAQ design based on FPGA boards.
